For those of us who served it might be very easy to understand the simple reason why
the Home Port Lights have a special meaning. Do you remember standing the Lookout
watches aboard ship while underway? Every ship underway had a minimum of three
Lookouts. Two on the Bridge, one on Port side and one on Starboard side. The third was
Aft. They had the duty to look for any Ships, Planes or anything that was on the water.
Especially at night it was easy to tell the direction of another ship based on the running
lights that were seen. If the light was Red, it was the Port side of the ship, if it was
Green, it was the Starboard side of the ship.
Of course there was the real special “RRR” while returning to Home Port or entering
any port. “Red Right Returning”…!
By having the Home Port Lights you will also show others that drive by your home you
served and have Pride and Honor. Place your order today and start having that feeling
again like putting on your Dress Blues.
